The aim of Scouting Ireland is to encourage the social, physical, intellectual, character, emotional and spiritual development of young people so that they may achieve their full potential and, as responsible citizens, to improve society.
This aim is achieved through the age-specific programme sections: Beaver Scouts, Cub Scouts, Scouts, Venturer Scouts, and Rover Scouts. Each section has its own unique programme that encourages the development of what we call the 'SPICES' (social, intellectual, character, emotional, spiritual) in an age-appropriate way. As a young person progresses through the sections, they and their fellow Scouts are given ever-greater responsibility for planning and running the programme. By the end of a young person's Scouting journey, the young people are essentially running the show while the adult leaders merely provide support and ensure safety.
